Gold as an Investment
Many holders of gold store it in form of bullion coins or bars as a hedge against inflation or other economic disruptions.
The ISO 4217 currency code of gold is XAU.
Modern bullion coins for investment or collector purposes do not require good mechanical wear properties; they are typically fine gold at 24k, although the American Gold Eagle and the British gold sovereign continue to be minted in 22k metal in historical tradition, and the South African Krugerand, first released in 1967, is also 22k. The special issue Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin contains the highest purity gold of any bullion coin, at 99.999% or 0.99999, while the popular issue Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin has a purity of 99.99%.
Several other 99.99% pure gold coins are available. In 2006, the United States Mint began production of the American Buffalo gold bullion coin with a purity of 99.99%. The Australian Gold Kangaroos were first coined in 1986 as the Australian Gold Nugget but changed the reverse design in 1989. Other popular modern coins include the Austrian Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin and the Chinese Gold Panda.
Silver as an Investment
Silver, like other precious metals, may be used as an investment. For more than four thousand years, silver has been regarded as a form of money and store of value.
Millions of Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins and American Silver Eagle are purchased as investments each year. The silver maple leaf is legal tender, at $5 per ounce, and there are many other silver coins with higher legal tender values. There are some Canadian silver $20 dollar coins.
Investment has different meanings in finance and economics. In economics, investment is related to saving and deferring consumption. Investment is involved in many areas of the economy, such as business management and finance whether for households, firms, or governments.
Arden-Arcade is served well by three major highways. Interstate 80 runs on the northern part of community and also serves as a northern border. Just to the east of the CDP is the Capital City Freeway and just to the south of the American River (the community's southern border) is Highway 50. Major east-west thoroughfares include El Camino Avenue, Marconi Avenue, Arden Way, Alta Arden Expressway, and Fair Oaks Boulevard while major north-south thoroughfares include Fulton Avenue, Watt Avenue, Howe Avenue, and Eastern Avenue.
Many of the major arterial streets that criss-cross through Arden-Arcade are named for the major inventors of the Industrial Revolution.
Watt Avenue (James Watt - Steam Engine) Howe Avenue (Elias Howe - Sewing Machine) Whitney Avenue (Eli Whitney - Cotton Gin) Edison Avenue (Thomas Edison - Light Bulb) Marconi Avenue (Guglielmo Marconi - Radio) Fulton Avenue (Robert Fulton - Steamboat) Morse Avenue (Samuel Morse - Telegraph) Bell Street (Alexander Graham Bell - Telephone)
